Sudanese goat is the most wide spread ruminant in Sudan that
is found in towns , cities , pasture and rural areas. Its importance is visible
through its contribution to food security by meat and milk production which is
the main food stuff for children and elderly people. Besides, the goat is quite
prominent in its high reproductive trait and low breeding costs in terms of
feeding and keeping spaces for it doesn’t require big space to be kept in,
especially inside houses or in the marginal areas with farms that are not valid
for crop cultivation or cattle breeding.

The goat census in
Sudan is approximately 30,649,000 heads and this number consists of Nubain ,
Desert and Mountain goat breeds which are local breeds with relatively poor
growth rate
